When I was pregnant with my first child, I spent hours staring at the walls of what was going to be his room. The cot was there. The dresser too. But the walls were blank. And I wanted something more. Something that felt like ours — made with care, not something from a generic catalogue.
I couldn't find what I was looking for. So I decided to create it.
That was over ten years ago. Since then, at StarStick we design children's wall stickers thinking about exactly that moment: the pregnant mum sitting on the floor of an empty room, imagining the space where her child will grow up.
If you're in that moment right now, this is for you.
Why wall stickers are perfect for a baby's room
The practical part first: no building work, no mess, and they go up in under an hour. With a baby on the way, that's not a small thing. That's everything.
But there's something beyond the practical. A well-chosen sticker turns an ordinary wall into the backdrop of your child's earliest years. It'll be the background of the photos you'll keep forever. The illustration they'll wake up to every morning from their cot.
That deserves to be chosen with love.
Which sticker to choose for a baby's room?
The honest answer: it depends more on you than on the baby. Because the baby, for now, has no opinion. But you do. And you'll be looking at that wall every time you walk in.
- Simple, uncluttered designs. The baby's room already has a cot, mobile, soft toys, a lamp… A large, clean sticker balances the space better than a busy one.
- A limited colour palette. It doesn't have to be white and grey if that's not your style. But the colours should breathe.
- A generous size. We all make the same mistake: choosing a sticker that's too small. On a bedroom wall, a medium sticker just disappears. When in doubt, go bigger.
- With the baby's name. Adding a personalised name makes it something unique. It's not just a decoration — it's their room.
Ideas based on the style you're going for
- Scandinavian and minimalist: the full moon with stars in grey or white, the polar bear, the fine-line rabbit. Timeless designs that won't feel dated.
- Colourful and cheerful: the rainbow with heart, the giraffe with koala, the hot air balloon with animals. Colour without chaos.
- Small room: a height chart with animals makes the most of vertical space and grows with the child for years.
- Shared room: the space rocket, the animal forest or the dragon with knight work well across different ages at the same time.
How to apply it without the stress
- Clean the wall properly before you start.
- Use masking tape to position everything before peeling anything off.
- Start with a small piece to build confidence.
- On textured walls, use a hairdryer at the end to help the sticker adhere fully.
And if you get stuck, just message us. We're here for that.
Decorating a baby's room doesn't have to be perfect. It has to be yours.
I learned that when I was pregnant, staring at those blank walls. And it's what I try to put into every sticker we design.
